RNLL Youth Scholarship Program

Overview

Beginning in 2023, Redmond North Little League (RNLL) provides a Youth Scholarship Program. The goal of this program is to acknowledge outstanding volunteer participation from members of the RNLL community aged 12-21 at the time of their volunteering. Youth volunteers who demonstrate meaningful participation and who meet certain other criteria will be eligible to receive a scholarship award from RNLL at the end of each season.

Volunteer Opportunities

RNLL provides many opportunities for youth volunteers to participate in the operation of the league. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Umpiring baseball games
  • Umpiring softball games
  • Scorekeeping
  • Field prep before games
  • Assistance with Evaluation Day
  • Helping coaches run practices (not for your own team)
  • Helping with Instructional Baseball (IB)
  • Assistance with other league events (Home Run Derby, All Star kickoff, etc.)

Volunteer activity must be logged and approved by an adult league volunteer or board member.

Eligibility

  • Age: Candidates must be 12 or older and 21 or younger at the time of the volunteer activity.
  • Good Academic Standing: Candidates must be enrolled in school and in good academic standing. Candidates must supply their end-of-academic-year report card to the player agent for verification.
  • Contribution: Candidates should show initiative in finding opportunities to participate with RNLL. In most cases, candidates should provide at least 10 hours of volunteer time to be eligible.
  • Setting an Example: Candidates should act as role models in the RNLL community, demonstrating respect for players, coaches, and fans.
  • Background Check: Candidates must be registered as volunteers with RNLL and must pass a background check.

Awards

At the close of each season, around the end of June, the RNLL Scholarship Committee, comprising the President, Treasurer, Player Agent, and Chief Umpire, will make award decisions based on documented volunteer participation and the above list of criteria. Award amounts will be commensurate with the candidate’s contribution to RNLL. Decisions of the Scholarship Committee are final.

The maximum scholarship amount per candidate in one league year is $1000.
